Option 2 (Some DIY (Do It Yourself) involved - $$)
Many of our customers want to add the rocks to their gabion baskets themselves, but they want us to professional build and install the gabion baskets for them. In this option we would build your gabion baskets to your specifications and we would also install the baskets at your location, including building the foundation, concreting in support posts, connecting and leveling the gabion baskets, etc., ready for you to add your own rock to the gabions to complete the project.

From Start to Finish

Option 3 (No DIY (Do It Yourself) involved - we do it all - $$$)
Most of our customers want a complete gabion product, professionally completed from start to fininsh. In Option 3, we would build your gabion baskets to your specifications; we would install the cages at your location (including build the foundation, concreting in support posts, connecting and leveling the gabion baskets, etc.) and we would also add the rock to the cages, and add any other features to the gabions (like wood or angle iron framing), to complete the project.

Custom Gabion Design was a triple win for us: 1) We could find them online through their very professional web site (doesn't sound like much, but try searching for Gabion fence installers in southern Arizona), 2) They were very responsive and professional, and 3) best of all, they did a GREAT job. They arrived on the day they said the would, at the time they said they would, and got 100 X 3.5 installed in just over a day.

From the first call to the last detail we can't say enough good things about Custom Gabion Design. Inaudi contacted me after a google search led me to this company. We set up a time to visit my backyard project at my convenience. When he showed up On Time, we talked in detail of what mine and my wife's vision was for our backyard. It was challenging because we were demolishing over 100ft of failing railroad ties and replacing with gabion stone cages. After another visit his partner Michael came and we went over every detail the project would entail. They not only are intelligent in their craft but both had a keen eye for detail which showed when I asked every foreseeable obstacle that might come up. They were creative and their estimate was within our budget. We set a start date and Inaudi and his crew showed up ON Time and ready to work. They are extremely hard workers and it shows in the detail they put into their craft. On the last day Inaudi went over the entire job site with us to make sure it was to our satisfaction. When finished they cleaned up paying special attention to scrap left on the ground knowing that we have dogs. After 2 weeks on the project we bid farewell to the crew that had become like family. Custom Gabion was within budget, on time, respectful, professional and a joy to have around. That is extremely rare as we have experienced with other contractors for minor projects. Anyone looking to have this type of work done will not be disappointed if you hire this company!

We contacted CGD because we wanted to fence in our property with gabion walls and pillars incorporated into the design. They were quick to respond and after the initial meeting with Inaudi, we decided to proceed . They worked with us on design and budget and were terrific to deal with throughout..never pressuring us. Inaudi and crew were prompt, courteous and hard working...keeping us abreast of any changes or issues they encountered during the construction process. They were respectful to our property and the final results were better than we could have hoped for. We highly recommend CGD, Inaudi, Micheal and his crew.

Michael and his team (with Inaudi and Abel) were AWESOME. From the first time Michael visited to discuss the design of a gabion wall in my front yard, he was super nice and full of good ideas which continued throughout the project. Michael and Inaudi have a passion for creating great looking work and it shows. They always consulted with me on decisions to be made throughout the project to make sure they were creating something I would be extremely happy with. The customer service was great! I would unquestionably use them again in future gabion projects!

We contracted Custom Gabion for an extensive gabion wall and bridge project within our association. it exceeded our expectations. Working with the crews was a great pleasure. the communication from Custom Gabion Design was exceptional. I would visit the site almost daily to take photos of the project but before arriving to the job site the photos have already been sent to me by the crew. When I arrived to the site they would stop what they were doing, greet me and explain what was done since my last visit and what I can expect in the next couple day. they always met the expectations. it was truly a great experience and pleasure working with them and we do have plans for future project and we will not hesitate to contact them. Thank you Custom Gabion for all your support and effort.

What is the Advantage and Disadvantage of Welded Wire Mesh
What are the Benefits of Zinc Steel Guardrail Systems?

Had this project bouncing around in my head for a couple years. Tried finding the materials myself but near impossible if you don't know specifically what you need (not to mention what you're doing). Sent Michael an and he returned it very quickly, Meeting him and his co-workers was very professional, very easy going. He could see what I had in mind right away and took measurements, gave me honest and up-front estimates, even suggested alternate ways of doing it if I was looking to watch costs. I wound up letting him do everything, start to finish. He had a couple other projects in the works at the same time, but was excellent about keeping me updated about my project. The end result, in my opinion, exceeds my initial expectations and is truly worth more than the investment. Their work is solid, well warranted, and beautiful. I have the best looking front yard border in the whole subdivision . . . seriously.

Our house is on a corner lot, so we were looking for an attractive way to fence it in and not have it look like a fortress. We contacted Custom Gabion Design for a quote. They responded quickly and were soon at our place to discuss our ideas. Our first idea ended up being over our budget, but they were happy to work with us on different options until we found something that worked for us. And the final product ended up working out much better for the space than our original idea anyway.
The gabion wall itself is beautiful! We get compliments from neighbors all the time. Michael and Inaudi were friendly and responsive, and clearly are proud of their work (and should be). They placed the wall by hand and had it fully installed within about 2 weeks. The difference it has made to the look and feel of our front yard is amazing, and now people/pets stay on the sidewalk and out of the yard.

What type of gabion is right for your project?

Whether you're looking for an erosion control solution at your project or want to use them as an architectural element inside or outside a building, gabions have a lot to offer. They not only prevent soil erosion on coast lines but are also great at preventing landslides and washouts. You can use different types of gabion baskets to provide stream-bank stabilization or reinforce roadside slope erosion problems. You can also use them in constructing decorative and sound dampening fences for residential and commercial applications as well as use larger baskets for security and fire protection in a variety of applications including government and military.
Gabions easily blend with the local environment due to the ability to use locally sourced fill material. Because they can drain water easily, they are highly stable as a retaining structure. Because of the easy availability of a wide variety of aggregate as infill, designers rely on them for high quality urban and landscape architecture elements. By designing and constructing gabion baskets properly, they can meet both structural and architectural design criteria associated with a retaining wall.
But for the most effective use of gabions, you must select the right type of materials for constructing your gabions depending on the area of application and project-specific requirements. The most common materials include galvanized steel, stainless steel, raw steel, PVC coated steel, and copolymer plastic.
Below are different types of gabions and their specific applications in different environments:

Galvanized Steel Gabions
These gabions are constructed of either welded steel wire mesh or double twisted wire mesh that is hot dipped galvanized. Galvanized gabions show excellent results for protection against general exposure and are the most common type. Galvanized protection on gabion wires from zinc has proven to be an excellent general purpose option with its inherent corrosion resistance. They tend to have a useful life of around 25 years on average. However, the actual design life depends on many factors including water exposure, salinity and acidity of the soils and run-off, as well as environmental pollution.

PVC Coated Galvanized Steel Gabions
PVC coated gabions can be either welded wire mesh or double twisted woven mesh gabions. In both cases the steel core wires are fuse bonded with PVC coating after hot-dip galvanizing and applying primer. They make solid and rigid structures by providing excellent protection in extreme environments. The PVC coating layer provides added protection for use in environments where soil or water is acidic or polluted. The protective coating prevents the risk of corrosion and is ideal for retaining and erosion applications in freshwater.

Stainless Steel Gabions
Without the need for any extra process, stainless steel gabions have great natural features and are available in both 304 and 316L Stainless Steel. Aesthetically, stainless steel gabions easily incorporate with architectural designs and are available in a range of wire diameters and mesh sizes depending on the aesthetic preference and the material that will be used as fill. They're fire-resistant and don't require extensive care. They are resistant to corrosion or rust throughout the wire instead of just having a coating on the exterior of the wire. For applications around the ocean or highly corrosive soil, marine-grade stainless steel gabion materials can greatly improve the project life but it should be mentioned all steel when exposed to saltwater for extended periods of time will eventually rust.

Polypropylene Plastic Gabions
In contrast to conventional steel wire gabions, these UV-stabilized polypropylene gabions are a more affordable option that gives you long-term durability while allowing for flexibility in rough or uneven areas. PP marine gabions are non-reactive for the marine environment and are treated to maintain UV resistance. PP marine gabions are ideal for bodies of water where wave energy dissipation is needed to reinforce the shoreline. They also help in scour-protection and maintaining the integrity of structures close to the shoreline.

Raw Steel Gabions
If you are looking for an original rustic look for your project, raw steel gabions are cheap and readily available. While the patina they develop is very attractive due to the lack of coating on the steel the life span can be greatly dimenished depending on the severity of the environmental conditions. That is why these gabions are generally used in arid conditions or in applications where they are not exposed to large amounts of moisture. You can apply powder coating or a clear coat to increase the lifespan but this would require additional onsite maintenance.
