Hi there,My dad, who wad a commercial artist, told me how to "train" brushes, which was something he said was a constant thing. He had brushes he used for many years. Now the first thing you need to do is get the brush as clean as possible. So if it is soiled with acrylic paint, you can get this stuff called "Goof-Off" from a paint store. It is a commercial acrylic and latex remover. Soak your bush in that for a few minutes and then wipe with a cloth. Then once you have removed all paint residue, then give the brush a good wash with soap and water. Rinse well and dry.Now if you have oil paint, then do the same thing with lacquer thinner instead of Goof-Off.Now that your brush is clean, it will probably look like it has had a bad hair day and be all frizzy. This is okay and normal. It is now time to train the brush, and this is how to do it.Get some Vaseline Petroleum Jelly and wipe a big gob into the rissoles. Wipe out the exes on a cloth and shape the brush to the desired shape. The Vaseline will hold the bristles to shape, but if it is stubborn and will not hold a shape, then take a piece of tin foil and wrap it around the head of the brush to corral those unruly bristles.Leave it alone for a good while , say 2 weeks to 2 months. During that time the bristles will take on there new shape. when you want to use the brush again, rinse it out in paint thinner to dissolve the Vaseline, and away you go with your fixed brush, good as new.TrainClown
What jan said, but remember its important to know if they are real hair ( which is much like your paper or your own hair when you forget to comb it out of the shower, it keeps its shape it dries in ) or plastic ( nylon or polyester which is what synthetics are made out of ) which hot water helps the most.
Careful on soaps, some have additives which arent good for watercolor brushes. Look at the ingredients and avoid anything that has a complicated word ending with cone ( especially shampoos this clogs up the brushes ability to carry water ), as well as harsh laundry detergents. If you can you really want to research this, or use something like masters brush cleaner.

Id go ahead and get some gum arabic next chance you get. For my brushes I am not using, I go ahead and dilute some gum arabic ( you only need a tiny bit ) and dip the brushes in and shape them. This is how you buy them in the store and ensures they keep a nice sharp tip just rewet them to let the gum arabic dissolve away.
If its urgent, Id say get your brushes wet and shape them with your fingers, this might be enough to fix them. If stubborn then take some paper towels and wrap them so they reinforce the point of your brush. Let them dry like this. This wont work as well as gum arabic or lots of soap, but it basically is the opposite of what caused them to bend.
It can take a while for the brush to get trained back to a good tip, you might just be stuck with bent brushes just keep training them into a nice tip when they dry, and as soon as possible get some gum arabic which is the best approach.
