Snap, snap! The NoIR Camera v2 is the official "night vision" camera board released by the Raspberry Pi Foundation!
The Raspberry Pi NoIR Camera Board v2 is a high quality 8 megapixel Sony IMX219 image sensor custom designed add-on board for Raspberry Pi, featuring a fixed focus lens. It's capable of 3280 x 2464 pixel static images, and also supports 1080p30, 720p60, and 640x480p60/90 video.
It attaches to the Pi by way of one of the small sockets on the board's upper surface and uses the dedicated CSi interface, designed especially for interfacing to cameras.
The NoIR Camera has No InfraRed (NoIR) filter on the lens which makes it perfect for doing Infrared photography and taking pictures in low light (twilight) environments.
And we also have the 8 megapixel version of the popular classic Raspberry Pi Camera Board!
The upgraded Raspberry Pi NoIR Camera board v2 features:
Raspberry Pi not included!
Note: The accompanying cable is NOT compatible with Raspberry Pi Zero models. You will need to purchase the Pi Zero Camera Cable separately for Pi Zero compatibility.
Recent developments have brought exciting news for developers and hobbyists working with the Raspberry Pi NoIR Camera Board v2. Gizmodo recently reported that a new firmware update now allows for even better low-light performance, enhancing its utility for night photography projects.
Additionally, updates in the latest Raspbian OS ensure better integration with third-party software, making it easier to customize your camera setup. For example, newly indexed applications in the Google Play Store allow remote control of your Raspberry Pi camera through a smartphone, adding more flexibility to your projects.

I have been requested to provide feedback/review information. Bear in mind my purchases have been during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic so I was not expecting much.
I will cover all my several orders from Vilros.
My experience with Vilros has been nothing short of great. I was able to properly place my orders, I got confirmations, I got ship dates and I got the products I ordered without problems.
However, I must mention more! I bought Raspberry Pi kits and parts. By purchasing the kits, several cool parts came along that I wasn't expecting and never got with their competitor's similar kits. Specifically, I like their power supply with the power switch. This allows me to eliminate the risk to the USB power port on my Raspberry Pi units. In the distant past I have broken the power ports (and had to delicately repair them - can you say surface mount?) with difficulty.
I have lots of units for many years. I am always experimenting (programming and changing out the SD cards all the time) so the power switch has been used extensively since I got my new units from Vilros.
Another couple of items that were a welcome surprise was the 32Gb SD card vs 8Gb (or rarely 16Gb) sizes I got from competitors. When I started using the Buster image, it would install on an 8Gb chip but when I did all the upgrades to PiOS suddenly I needed 16Gb minimum. After I installed software I wanted, I typically needed a 32Gb chip. Thanks to Vilros providing a reasonably-sized chip I didn't have to drive off somewhere to obtain something in the middle of preparing my project.
And even more to my surprise my Vilros Raspberry Pi kits included a micro-SD chip reader. These allow the micro-SD chip to be read and programmed without the SD-to-microSD adapters. Very cool!
I received my orders without any shipping problems or damage.
Summary:
I liked Vilros from my very first order. They have the products I want and are very competitively priced. My order processing and progress went as promised. The things that surprised me are perfect for how I work with my Raspberry Pi units. I have already recommended Vilros to some of my friends and one already ordered a Pi4 kit that he likes very much.
While your situation may vary, I have had a great experience so far and this being the first week of January 2021, I will be ordering some more stuff from Vilros very soon. Just waiting on the next payday...
Scott
