Vise Recommendation for under $100

I really like the yost RAV 5 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015KP2KI4/?tag=atomicindus08-20 or if you prefer Homedepot https://www.homedepot.com/p/Yost-5-in-Rapid-Action-Bench-Vise-5-RAV/ Made of ductile iron, so it is a stronger casting then most "grey iron" vises. it also has a 7" jaw opening so it can hold bigger stuff. I like the quick release so I can open and close it fast. and at less than $50 It is probably the best quality vs cost vise you can find. for a general home owners vise it will last forever IMO. As a bonus, if you do break it you spent very little on it and now know you probably need a much higher end one

For the price, this is a good small bench vise. There aren't many out there in this range and built this well. There are just a few small issues I came across. The biggest one being that they painted over the anvil with the same coarse paint as the rest of the vice. If you're trying to flatten something out it's going to be tough with this paint. It's going to transfer the pattern of the paint to the piece. I'm going to have to grind it off. The vice can be opened to the full 4-1/2", but that takes the worm screw right to the edge of it's threading. I'd consider 4" the widest usable opening. It's grips items well, including small diameter pipe. The inserts look like they are replaceable, but I can't tell you how widely available they are. This may be a standard size across all vices, but I honestly don't know. The edges of the inserts are a little sharp, but this can be easily fixed with a little filing. There's a little play in the jaw, but nothing to be too concerned with. Once clamped down on something it's not an issue. The swivel function is a little rough, but I think it'll get easier over time. There are some burrs on the lower base that are the problem here. I could always take it apart and grind them down, but they'll probably wear on their own over time. It comes with four bolts to bolt it down to your bench. They're about 3/8" x 2" long. Overall, this is a good vice for the money. There are a couple minor issues that need to be addressed, but none of them affect the primary function of the vice enough to be a real problem. I'd recommend it to others and mention the couple of small issues. Hope this helps.
